V3 Systems Changes the Speed of the VDI world
Virtual Desktops will only be successful at replacing local desktops when they are as fast or faster than the desktops they replace.
Working with machines, through the years I believe we’ve become accustomed to a simple concept, and that is we prefer upgraded machines as we move from one to another. If we have to down grade for any reason it makes any of us feel like second-class citizens. The difference between an upgrade and a downgrade ultimately comes down to performance.
Although VDI has been around for a long time even experts would acknowledge it makes a great second desktop but local machines are better. Better is being defined primarily by speed. The landscape of VDI deployments trying to be used as desktop replacements has been littered with failure due to this simple concept. You have to upgrade my existing machine if you want to replace it.
I’ve found myself saying many times, restating the words of those who have had some of these failed proofs of concepts, you can not replace a desktop with another unless the replacement is as fast or faster than the replaced. Said another way, speed is a funny thing; you never know you need it until you experience it, and then you cannot live with out it.
Speed is also a funny thing when delivered as it comes with all the other benefits, which also might constitute an upgrade. Once you are faster, additional features become even more valuable, but not before.
The promises of VDI are very much worth it–productivity increases, simplification of management, lower TCO , power savings etc..
I am excited about using V3′s product for my computing life wherever I go, and I can do it on any connected devices that act like terminals for my virtual desktop including thin clients, iPad and Google TV. Through whatever terminal I choose, I now get access to the fastest desktops in the world bringing desktops in the cloud that are significant upgrades to local machines.
Having experienced the performance this technology brings and seeing how it changes the lives of the customers we are interfacing with, I hope we see a lot more people be able to experience V3′s solution. So see for yourselves just how game changing your desktop in the cloud, running on the V3 Stratosphere line of appliance servers, really is.
