Simple IT solution on steroids; is it time to centralize your computing power?

Yeah, you read that right, centralize your computing power – reverse all that you’ve been doing in IT for the past 30 years and go back to the dumb terminal mentality. Well, sort of… Technology has made vast improvements in the past few years.  Exciting new architectures are now available that truly make desktop cloud computing not only viable but superior in many ways to a traditional desktop system, and a complete transformation of a legacy VDI implementation.  Let’s take a closer look.

Desktop CloudDesktop Cloud Infrastructure (DCI)… What is that you ask? It’s all the rage in desktop replacement grade virtual technology.   What makes it so special? Pretty simple – it’s a magnitude increase in performance over a legacy VDI implementation and a more powerful computer than anything sitting on your desk. Why should you care? Finally, there is a way to consolidate all of your desktop work to a single location – what is it worth to you to NOT have to visit every single desktop in your company just to load a new image? What if your desktop backup solution didn’t need to reach beyond the data center? Not interested yet?

Below are some additional advantages to Desktop Cloud Infrastructure, as offered by V3 Systems, the leader in DCI. Their unique approach of combining and optimizing CPU, memory and storage on a single appliance that can easily be “plugged in” to a virtualized or traditional data center is revolutionary.  In addition, their ability to deliver a highly scalable desktop cloud that contains personalized or persistent virtual computers truly sets them apart as leaders in this new landscape.

Improved communication protocols.  Along with DCI come significant advancements in network communication protocols, one in particular is PCoIP.  PCoIP revolutionizes the way a client talks to a virtual desktop.  By only sending keystrokes and screenshots as encrypted pixels in a highly optimized fashion it lessens the congestion on virtually any network by significant amounts.  When combined with DCI this allows for a high-speed end user experience and lessens the cost and complexity of infrastructure at the same time.  So now put this together – VMware with PCoIP running on a high-speed V3 desktop cloud – it’s fast, it’s simple and it’s a whole lot more efficient than whatever you’ve got going with your traditional architecture, I’m sure!

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). What if you could finally let employees choose and use the device that helps them be more productive without the hassle of a massive IT support mandate?  If they are using a desktop in the cloud, users can access it with anything they want that supports a simple view application!  Look, I travel a lot… OK, really a lot.  I hate lugging my laptop around with me everywhere I go, so I don’t do it anymore.  With my V3 Desktop in the Cloud, I can use my iPad® just as easily as my laptop because it’s accessing the same computer in the data center – it’s fast, it’s easy, it's secure and it’s always there!

Spending your IT budget on costly desktop systems, network bandwidth expansion, WAN acceleration, and network and application troubleshooting tools can be greatly reduced with desktop cloud computing.  Those of us who have been around for a while remember the days of the mainframe and the terminal – it was super simple. It’s time for super simple on steroids now!
