In my last blog post I spoke a little about the performance increases that many users see when running virtual desktops on an appliance.

When deciding to change careers from health and fitness to technology, I was looking for a product that I could really stand behind and that would change the lives of people for the better. One of the main reasons people get into health and fitness is, “to help people.” By continuing to help people through innovative technology, I wouldn’t be straying too far from my core beliefs as a personal trainer.

First, let me take a moment to say that I am thrilled to be part of the V3 team!  As the newest member of the management team, I can tell you that this is an exciting time to be here.  Desktop virtualization deployments are expected to significantly increase over the next few years and we have some exciting technology that is making desktop virtualization a  viable, cost-effective and smart option for companies today.

I recently came across a Desktop Virtualization Trends survey done by Gartner in December of last year. (See the full report).  As you might expect, this survey begins with the majority of respondents selecting lower TCO and OPEX costs and follow-me/anywhere desktop features as the main business drivers for adopting desktop virtualization. 

V3 Systems is ecstatic to be working with VSSecurity in Taiwan. This partnership is so exciting to us because it will enable both companies to provide the Taiwanese market a new purpose-built Desktop Cloud Computing appliance from V3 Systems. With it, the Taiwanese market will be able to adopt V3’s high performance VDI, and implement that to end-users. New end-users will have similar experiences to V3’s customers all over the world.

I was recently on a plane flight, participating in my favorite pastime (tweeting and catching up on other’s tweets and content), when I came upon a conversation with a well-known thought leader in the VMware ecosystem. He was honest enough to say that a centralized OS doesn’t do anything for him that physical desktops and tablets don’t currently do.

If there is anything to be learned from the 2012 election, it’s that very simple statement… One party had the money, the corporate backing, the state of the art analytics, the perfect face and the perfect family. The other party had less money, a fairly aggressive corporate revolt, high unemployment and deep and divided opinions about both the face and the family. Yet somehow the perceived lesser candidate won a very decisive electoral election. How could this have happened? How could this be? 

Is managing desktops similar to operating long haul trucks? I think the answer is, yes!  Most of us traveling down the road each day pass a fair number of eighteen-wheeled vehicles and give them little attention…unless of course they are about to run you over.  However, maybe like me you’ve noticed that many of them are configured to maximize energy and efficiency gains.  They now incorporate new technology such as under-skirts, wheel covers, and aerodynamic back fins. In addition, some of the hidden things you don’t notice but which are most likely there include navigation and GPS transmission devices that aid the overall orchestration and movement of the operator.   The image below is a perfect example of a transportation company investing in the entire cost of operating the vehicle, not just the cost of one part of the equipment. 

V3 Systems has given life and clarity to a concept that has bewildered many: the Cloud. While  in college I remember learning about Mesospheric, Stratospheric, and Tropospheric clouds, so I wondered whether V3 Systems’ cloud products involved a solution to track the weather patterns. That was me a few months ago. Today, after working in the Cloud with V3 Systems and experiencing the guaranteed performance, availability, and high utilization of their Desktop Computing Cloud, I know firsthand it is much cooler than riding through turbulence in a Boeing 747 through atmospheric clouds. As an added bonus, I now have the ability to spend more time with my family and friends throughout the United States without sacrificing productivity at work. There are no words to describe this feeling of freedom in the Cloud.    

For me as a Sales Engineer, I cannot tell you how important it is to believe in and stand behind the technology you sell. In the past, I worked at a company where they were good at marketing their products, but couldn’t deliver on what they sold. It was hard to go to work, and I felt that my individual integrity was at stake every time I talked with a customer. In contrast, my first week at V3 Systems was quite exciting and inspirational, and it brought a fresh outlook on my career. Everything I read about the company before I started was overwhelmingly positive. 

As the world rushes into the Cloud and IT Professionals drool over its capabilities and inevitable future, Cavemen like myself who ultimately write checks (or should I say execute online transfers) to catapult ourselves into this wispy future pause and say – What the hell is the Cloud and what does it do for me anyway?
